Common Questions
Type in your address in the coverage map search bar to check if you have coverage by the “purple” color indicator.
The coverage map is reliable but does show an approximation of data coverage. Actual coverage may be affected by terrain, buildings, signal strength, and other factors.
No, the map does not include network outages or planned maintenance.
No, coverage maps do not show real-world speed, as speeds may vary depending on network availability and other factors.
TextNow's coverage map is based on predictions from our network partner and gives a good general view, but real-life signal can vary with things like buildings, terrain, and even weather.
You can get coverage nationwide in the U.S, Puerto Rico excluded.
As a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), our coverage comes from our nationwide carrier partner’s network. Since we don’t own the towers directly, availability depends on when they expand service in your area.
If your area has weak or spotty signal, you can:
- Check our coverage map for the latest updates
- Step outside or near a window for better reception
- Switch from 5G to 4G/LTE in your phone’s Settings
- Try calling and texting over Wi-Fi instead through the TextNow app
Check coverage maps first to determine which network works best in your area. Once confirmed, look for the plan that best fits your talk, text, and data needs (e.g. whether you need unlimited data, limited data, or no data at all) that’s within your budget.
You will still be able to access your calls and texts over Wi-Fi for free with the TextNow app.
If your phone is 5G compatible, you will automatically connect to our 5G network wherever it’s available. No extra charges. Use our free device checker to check if your phone is 5G compatible.

Yes, 5G can be up to 100X faster than 4G.
