How it works?

What’s on it. What’s not.
Have a say in what comes next.
Yello there!
We started Yello as parents building for our own kids. Now we’re building it with yours. The families who start with us shape what comes next—tell us what your family needs, right from the Parent Portal.
Stuff you might be wondering
How is Yello different from other kid phones?
Most kid phones either lock everything down or let everything in. Yello does neither—you choose exactly who they can call or text, and nobody else gets through. It’s a real phone on a cellular network, with no feed for them to scroll and nothing for them to buy.
Can my kid add someone I haven’t approved?
No. Only the contacts you approve can call or text your kid—and it works both ways, so your kid can’t reach anyone you haven’t approved either. If someone else tries to get through, it just doesn’t ring or land. You can add or remove contacts anytime through the Parent Portal.
What can my kid do on the phone?
Call and text their approved contacts, including group chats with family or friends. Take photos, use the calculator, check the weather, and play a few simple games you can turn on or off anytime. What’s not there is on purpose—no browser, no app store, no social media, so there’s nothing pulling for their attention besides the people who matter.
Will Yello add more features?
Not yet—and that’s on purpose. Yello launched lean so nothing’s competing for your kid’s attention. We’re building it with early customers like you—shaped by what you tell us you need.
Can I see where my kid is?
Yes—check their live location anytime from your Parent Portal.*
*Live location requires the phone to be powered on and connected to the network. Location accuracy may vary and is not guaranteed. Yello collects your child’s precise geolocation to operate the service. See our Children’s Privacy Notice and Privacy Policy for details.
Is this number theirs to keep?
Yes. The number you pick is your kid’s real, portable number—it’s theirs to keep, whether they stay on Yello or move to a different carrier down the road.
What do I get for $19.99/month?
A real phone plan on a nationwide network—unlimited calls and texts to approved contacts, live location, 911 calling*, and full access to the Parent Portal. No long-term contract, no hidden fees.
* We route all calls, including 9-1-1 calls, over the mobile cellular network. When your child dials 9-1-1, TextNow will attempt to automatically provide the device’s real-time location and phone number to the dispatcher. However, location accuracy is not guaranteed and the dispatcher may not always be able to capture or retain this information. If live location is unavailable, emergency services may rely on the billing address registered to your account. You may only register one 9-1-1 emergency address at a time and you are responsible for keeping it current. To update it, log into your Parent Portal, update your billing address, and set it as primary. Read the full 9-1-1 Disclosure.
Does Yello work outside the US?
Yello runs on a US network, so it’s built for use here at home. It doesn’t currently support international roaming.
Who’s behind Yello?
Yello was created by a group of parents at TextNow, a wireless carrier that’s been connecting people for 17 years. We built the first-phone we’d actually want to give our own kids—a real phone, with only the people we approve able to reach them.
