Thanksgiving 2020: Thankful for Tech

No one planned for this year to happen. For vacations to be cancelled, weddings to be delayed, holiday traditions minimized. It seems that there is a lot to be resentful for this year, but as we celebrate today—a day traditionally reserved for giving thanks—we think there is a lot more to be thankful for.

For the past eight months, we've all had to drastically change our lifestyles; retreat into a room, dining room table, maybe even a converted closet in order to maintain our livelihoods, become teachers, on-call chefs, professional cleaners. We've organized and re-organized our living space a couple few (hundred) times, picked up new hobbies, got addicted to TikTok, all the while watching the rest of the world go through the same journey. And yes, we haven't had any large family gatherings, celebrated birthdays with Netflix instead of with friends, and swapped the office coffee station for a corner on our kitchen countertop. There is a lot that we've missed. But think of how much more we could've missed.

This year, we're thankful for our health, for our family and friends, for our customers, and —we're thankful for tech. In a time where we weren't allowed to work in the office, we had Zoom to continue team meetings and still feel like a close-knit company. When we weren't allowed to go to restaurants, we had UberEats, DoorDash, Skip the Dishes, GrubHub, or Postmates to deliver our favorite dishes. When we felt uncomfortable going out to buy our own groceries, we had Instacart to do it for us. When we felt like switching our wardrobe from business casual to just casual, or optimizing our home office space, we had Amazon and a slew of other businesses that allowed us to shop online. When we needed a little motivation to stay physically healthy, we had YouTube with thousands of home workouts and tutorials to choose from. And when we needed to hear the voice of a close friend or family member, we had TextNow.

Yes, it's been a rough year. But thanks to technology, we didn't have to go it alone. We're thankful for all of you for allowing us to continue providing an essential service to anyone who needs it. For accepting the ads we have in our app so the service can stay free. For continuing to tell us how much TextNow has helped you.

We wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving, and hope our service can help this holiday season feel just like any other.
