How to activate your new TextNow eSIM on iPhone

To begin, make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection in order to complete eSIM activation.

Activate your eSIM

  1. First, confirm you're eligible for an eSIM by making sure that your iPhone is on iOS 17.4 or higher, and that you have one of the following iPhone models:

    • iPhone XS

    • iPhone XS Max

    • iPhone XR

    • iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd Generation)

    • iPhone 11 series (all models)

    • iPhone 12 series (all models)

    • iPhone 13 series (all models)

    • iPhone 14 series (all models)

    • iPhone 15 series (all models)

    • iPhone 16 series (all models)

    • iPhone 17 series (all models)

  2. Scan the QR code to open TextNow in the App Store. If you see an Update button, tap it to get the latest version of the app.

  3. Then, open the TextNow app and go to My Account or the main menu, and select Install eSIM or Go Wireless. You can also click here on your phone to start activation.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach Activate eSIM in Settings.

  5. Now you’ll be redirected into your iOS settings. When the Activate New eSIM notification appears, tap Allow.

  6. Tap Continue at the bottom of the screen.

  7. When prompted, select your new TextNow SIM as your Default Line and default for Cellular Data.

  8. After the eSIM is installed, confirm the setup was successful by following these steps:

    1. Go to Settings → Cellular.

    2. Tap your new eSIM line.

    3. Verify your eSIM profile appears with the name you gave it and that the Network Selection shows TextNow.

Note: If your phone has other SIM or eSIM profiles, it may automatically rename the new eSIM. Always check the network name to confirm you’re viewing the correct profile.

    4. Make sure Turn On This Line is switched on.

  9. After completing eSIM setup, check out TextNow plans and data options.

Important: Please ensure you do NOT delete your eSIM from your iOS settings; if you do this, you will not be able to re-add the same eSIM again.

  10. Finally, test out your new service to confirm everything is working properly by turning off your Wi-Fi and sending a text or making a call in the TextNow app.
